Building Capacity for Carbon Measurement and Reporting at Haxhi Zeka University

Habitat had the privilege of contributing to the capacity building of the academic staff of Haxhi Zeka University in Peja through the presentation and practical application of Karbon360, the first climate technology software #MadeInKosova designed for real-time tracking, measurement, and reporting of carbon emissions in accordance with the global GHG Protocol standard.

This training focused on strengthening institutional knowledge and technical competencies for measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions using internationally recognized methodologies. By integrating climate technology into academic practice, the initiative supports universities in understanding, quantifying, and managing their environmental impact through a scientific and data-driven approach.

Karbon360 enables accurate carbon footprint calculations based on localized emission factors, allowing institutions to produce transparent, comparable, and standards-aligned reports. This approach not only improves environmental accountability but also supports evidence-based decision-making and long-term sustainability planning.

The collaboration represents an important step toward institutionalizing a scientific approach to measuring the climate impact of public universities. By equipping academic staff with practical tools and technical knowledge, the initiative lays the groundwork for integrating environmental reporting into institutional governance and operational planning.

Through this initiative, Haxhi Zeka University becomes the first institution in Kosovo to apply environmental impact measurement through climate technology — a pioneering practice that deserves to serve as a model for replication across the country’s education system and public institutions.

This milestone demonstrates how academic institutions can lead by example, contributing to climate responsibility, transparency, and sustainable development. By embracing innovation and global standards, universities can play a critical role in shaping a climate-conscious society and preparing future professionals to lead the green transition.
